Spreading art and philanthropy

Volunteers Needed

I feel as though the headline says it all. But let me explain:

COVID LIT has been live for just about four months now. I knew the idea was great—mobilizing writers to do more during this time than simply create—however, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in response. A few submissions, sure. A few hundred dollars, perhaps. But this, like a pandemic-induced global shut-down, caught me off guard. This started as a one-person endeavor, a second in a recruited student who has an eye for graphic design. This immediately morphed into a third with the addition of Ryan to help me out with poetry (check out his poems in our first issue), but we are still unable to keep up with the pace of submissions—a terrific issue to have, of course, but an issue nonetheless. Over the past two months, both Ryan and I have moved into new apartments, which has set us back tremendously. When the operation relies on a couple people and both have boxes and bubble wrap between our fingertips and a computer, the work doesn’t get done. Therefore, consider this a “Help Wanted” post.

Here is what we need:

Readers (2-3) - We would love to have more eyes on these submissions so the publishing process can be a bit more diverse in aesthetic and, of course, to speed up the process. We would love to hear from students majoring in creative writing or English Literature, MFA/Doctoral candidates, and anyone else who would consider themselves obsessed with reading. While two people are overwhelmed by the workload, this would be a cake-walk if we had a couple more eyes on the submissions.

Social Media Manager (1) - One thing I’ve learned about myself: I am no good with social media. I don’t keep up with it. I post weird things. In my hands, I feel our social media presence is next to nothing. If you consider yourself social media savvy and are in-tune with the reading/writing scene online, let me know.

Requirements: dependable access to internet, access to GMAIL, access to Zoom or Google Duo, and approximately 2 hours of your time per week—maybe 1-2 more hours when we have a virtual conference.

If you’d like to volunteer for any of these roles, please email me your resume/CV and why you are interested. I would love to recruit volunteers who believe in the vision and are compelled to help COVID LIT transcend literary circles. I would also love to recruit diverse voices and perspectives. I want COVID LIT to be as inclusive and collaborative as possible.

-Brian

Our existence may be rooted in a specific disease, but COVID LIT aims to be much more than anti-coronavirus. We want to use art to fight alongside the many victims of the many ills of the world. So please consider donating to any number of organizations fighting racial injustice: Black Lives Matter, Color of Change, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, ACLU, or any number of GoFundMe opportunities helping the families coping with loss of life. Here’s a list of more causes/organizations.
